Meg Ryan
Meg Ryan is a blonde-haired blue-eyed
lady with a vivacious personality. She was born Margaret Mary Emily Hyra to
Susan (Duggan) and was she was an English teacher and a former actress. Harry
Hyra was a math teacher. Meg is of Ruthenian, Polish, Irish, and German
ancestry ("Hyra" is a Ruthenian surname, while "Ryan" is
her maternal grandmother's maiden name). Meg has graduated from Bethel high
school, Bethel in June 1979. Meg then moved to New York City and studied
journalism at New York University. Meg Ryan as her new name, entered acting in
order to earn money while she was completing her education. 1981 was her debut
on the big screen. She portrayed Candice Bergen's little girl in George Cukor's
film Rich and Famous (1981). She auditioned and was eventually cast as Betsy in
the daily television soap The World Turns the World turns (1956). The show
starred her from 1982 until 1984. Meg also played a role in the television
series One of the Boys (1982) however, the show was eventually cancelled. Her
move to Hollywood came in 1984 and was offered an interview for the western TV
series Wildside (1985). Meg had a small role in Top Gun (1986), and was then
part of Steven Spielberg's Innerspace (1987) in which she was starring
alongside Dennis Quaid. She again co-starred with Quaid in the remake of D.O.A.
(1988) and got married on Saint Valentine's Day 1991. Meg appeared in 1989's
When Harry Met Sally... (1989), and the restaurant scene was made famous. Meg
was nominated both the Golden Globe and the BAFTA. In 1990, she co-starred with
Tom Hanks in Joe Versus the Volcano (1990) and this time she played three roles
as DeDe/Angelica/Patricia. She starred alongside Tom in the very successful
Sleepless in Seattle (1993) for which she was again nominated for the Golden
Globe. Meg was able to break away from the grain in 1994 when she portrayed the
role of Meg's drunken wife and mother "When a Man Loves a Woman"
(1994). She went back to being "cute" following that film with I.Q.
(1994) & French Kiss (1995). People Magazine named Meg "Woman Of
The Year" in 1994, and she was awarded the Harvard Hasty Pudding Award.
